Our Story

Established in 2018, Aftersunset has emerged as a pioneering platform in China, dedicated to fostering a deeper, holistic understanding of the moving body through the lens of cross-cultural exchange. At the heart of our mission lies the integral perspective that movement transcends borders, cultures, and beliefs.

Through collaborations with international organizations and renowned professionals in the field, we've curated a selection of purpose-driven events and programs that contribute meaningfully to the conversation on somatic education. Our online and in-person workshops, backed by rigorous academic and research initiatives, prioritize a balanced blend of science, culture, expertise and artistry. Our year-long somatic movement teacher training program provides a comprehensive curriculum, and it has empowered a new wave of educators with both technique and an integral perspective. While our cross-cultural residency program offers a platform for diverse pedagogical insights and exchanges.

Aftersunset's foundational principles of inclusion and diversity resonate through our endeavors. We recognize the importance of providing tools that support individuals in their journeys of self enquiry, and we place a high value on creating a safe space where every perspective is acknowledged and respected.

As we look ahead, our focus remains steadfast. We are the leaders in the field of somatic education, fostering an environment where knowledge-sharing leads to mutual growth and understanding. We invite stakeholders, cultural organizations, and experts to collaborate and co-create with us, ensuring that the essence of movement is celebrated in its most authentic and encompassing form.

Our Timeline

2018-2019

Founding Years

Aftersunset took its initial steps, carving a niche for somatic education. Our beginnings were humble, yet deeply rooted in purpose. We embarked on this journey by hosting nonprofit workshops, showcasing leading somatic practices and modalities.

2020-2021

In these years, we started to focus on finding the stage in cultural contexts. Our workshops were more than mere learning sessions; they were events of creation and expression. Performance-making was integral to our approach, providing participants with a platform to manifest their learnings into tangible art. It wasn’t just about understanding movement—it was about living it, breathing it, and showcasing it.

2022-2023

Expanding Horizons

Recognizing the universality of movement and its power to connect disparate cultures, we embarked on collaborations that transcended borders. This global outreach not only amplified our presence but also expanded our capacity to serve a broader spectrum of individuals. Our commitment to elevating the field of somatic education drove us to forge partnerships with foundational teachers – pioneers whose contributions have shaped the very landscape of somatics, providing students with unparalleled opportunity to set their paths to becoming the next generation of leaders in somatic education.

It was this spirit of community and shared purpose that propelled us from our Shanghai origins to the global platform we occupy today.
